Preloaded Autoinjector | Ovagen | 3ml Pen | 6mg

Ovagen (EDL) in bacteriostatic water at 2 mg/mL: 6 mg in a preloaded 3 mL pen

Ovagen is Glu-Asp-Leu (EDL), a three-residue synthetic peptide from the Khavinson bioregulator series with a theoretical mass of 375.4 Da. In this listing it comes already dissolved in a preloaded pen: a 3 mL cartridge holding 6 mg of Ovagen at 0.2% w/v, which is 2 mg/mL. Published work on EDL amounts to a few kidney cell and tissue-culture studies from one St Petersburg group, set against that group’s broader idea that short peptides regulate genes.

What is in the pen

The cartridge holds 3 mL of sterile solution. The peptide is the same H-EDL-OH sold as freeze-dried powder in the Ovagen 20 mg vial, here at 0.2% w/v: 6 mg per pen, or roughly 16 µmol. The solvent is bacteriostatic water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as the preservative. On the safety data sheet the peptide is not classified as hazardous, while benzyl alcohol carries statements for harm if swallowed or inhaled, serious eye irritation and possible skin sensitisation.

Keep the pen in its carton at 2 to 8 °C, out of the light, capped between uses and never frozen. The sheet says to discard it if the solution has frozen or looks discoloured or cloudy. The pen holds less peptide than the vial or the spray, which both carry 20 mg. For the general trade-offs between formats, see peptide pen vs vial.

What the research covers

The tripeptide in the pen is coded T-35 in the papers of Khavinson’s group, and the studies that test it directly used kidney cells. In primary kidney cell cultures aged in vitro, the group compared T-35 with the related tripeptide T-31 (AED) and with a calf kidney polypeptide complex; the abstract identifies the gelatinase MMP-14 as the target of T-35, while cell-renewal markers responded to the other two1. In organotypic kidney cultures from young and old rats, both tripeptides raised proliferation and lowered apoptosis, by less than the kidney complex did2.

Behind these sits the group’s general model, in which peptides of two to seven residues reach the cell nucleus, interact with histones and DNA, and alter gene expression and methylation3. That model is stated for short peptides as a class. None of the abstracts measured EDL in a solution like the one in this pen, and none reports its stability in water, so the storage limits on the safety data sheet are the only guidance for the pen itself.

All of this is culture work, and none of it concerns the liver, although Ovagen is often marketed that way. The Ovagen peptide guide covers the wider literature, and the Livagen guide compares the two peptides sold as liver bioregulators.

How each lot is tested

Every lot is tested in PrymaLab’s own laboratory in Ashland, Kentucky before release: RP-HPLC for purity, LC-MS for identity, Karl Fischer titration for water, LAL for endotoxin and USP <71> for sterility. Published certificates are listed on the results page and can be checked by number and key on the verify page. The certificate covers the peptide lot used to fill the pen, not the finished solution. These are in-house results from PrymaLab Analytical, not an independent test, and the lab is not accredited to ISO 17025. The third-party testing guarantee on this page still applies: if any independent laboratory finds the wrong compound, or less than the stated purity or amount, the order is refunded and the cost of the test is reimbursed.

Frequently asked questions

How does the pen differ from the Ovagen vial?

The vial holds 20 mg of freeze-dried EDL that is kept at −20 °C and dissolved in the lab when needed. The pen holds 6 mg already in bacteriostatic water at 2 mg/mL and is kept at 2 to 8 °C. The peptide is the same; the amount, form and storage differ.

What does the certificate cover for a pen?

It covers the lot of peptide used to fill the pen, tested in PrymaLab's own laboratory, not the finished solution in the cartridge. Certificates can be looked up on the testing results page and checked by number and key on the verify page.

Is there published stability data for Ovagen in solution?

Not in the references checked for this page. The EDL papers are short culture studies that do not report how the peptide holds up in water over time, so the storage conditions on the safety data sheet are what to follow.

Is the Ovagen pen meant for human use?

No. It is a laboratory research product only, not approved for human or veterinary use anywhere, and nothing on this page describes using it in people or animals.

Peptide Bioregulators by Organ System: A Research Overview

Peptide bioregulators are a family of very short synthetic peptides, most of them two to four amino acids, each tied to a specific organ. They came out of one Soviet-era research program and they remain an odd corner of peptide science: a large catalog, a bold mechanistic claim, and a thin independent evidence base. This research-use-only overview maps which compound goes with which tissue and says plainly what the research does and does not support.
